Which Morality?

There is an annoying tendency these days for Christians to narrow and constrict their conception of morality in accordance with their sociopolitical views. The Christian Left decries sins of injustice and oppression, considering such sins to be in the only category rightly considered significant, while the Christian Right preaches against sexual immorality, unbelief and personal unrighteousness. As if justice and righteousness were unrelated. Amos chapter 2 puts this nonsense to flight, as the prophet declares God's judgment on the whole spectrum of sin, from injustice and oppression to greed and cruelty to disobedience, idolatry and sexual immorality. Let God be true and every man a liar.

"But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!" (Amos 5:24 NIV)
